Annie and Matt’s Mount Gulian Upstate New York Wedding has been featured on The Knot! Check it out here!
THEIR HISTORY
Annie and Matt were married in the fall at the beautiful historic Mount Gulian wedding venue. It was appropriately chosen as the couple first met apres ski on a mountain in Annie’s home state of Vermont. Five years later, on her 30th birthday trip to Jamaica with their dearest friends, Matt proposed. Annie said yes! They began planning their special day, complete with the cutest ‘ski’ details so perfectly woven through the design of the reception to celebrate the night they met and their shared love of skiing together.
THE DETAILS
Annie and Matt chose a classically romantic vibe for their day, with modern industrial elements incorporated. Their ceremony took place in the garden at Mount Gulian and their reception was held in the old carriage house. Annie has a self-proclaimed love affair with romantic florals and knew they would be a focal point of their special day. The garden showcased an existing arch, naturally overgrown with vibrant greenery, under which the couple would become husband and wife. It was flanked by giant urns full of gorgeous flowers. Guests sat on natural wooden benches for a more intimate, “we’re all family here” feel.
The carriage house was transformed into a dreamy, rustic setting for the reception. It was illuminated by dozens of Edison bulb pendants and a custom neon sign with Annie and Matt’s names! Natural wood farm tables were surrounded by modern industrial seating, each named after one of Annie and Matt’s favorite ski trails. Instead of traditional linens, light grey and blue cheesecloth runners were loosely draped down the long rectangular tables and pooled on the ground. Layered on top were white plates, gold cutlery, dusty-blue cheesecloth napkins, an array of short and tall candles. The tables were completed by stunning, free-spirited floral centerpieces. To add a personal touch, Kelly and Matt created a DIY escort card display of mini gold skiers to help guests find their seat assignments. Each guest kept the skier as a memento of the wedding day and can use it as an ornament around the holidays for years to come.
SWEET SENTIMENTS
Matt and Annie said the most special moment of their Mount Gulian wedding day was the ceremony, which they had customized themselves. They come from different religious backgrounds, so they broke tradition and made the ceremony their own. A dear friend served as their officiant and every component, symbol and reading was hand picked. Both sets of their parents were incorporated into the ceremony. Matt’s parents chose to read a beautiful piece by Kahlil Gibran on marriage, and Annie’s dad chose to write something original. He read it while her mom stood by him with tears of love and joy in her eyes. Towards the end of the ceremony they included all of their family and friends in a “community affirmation” right before their own personal vows and rings were exchanged. Annie reflected, “Having our whole universe in one place as we exchanged sacred vows while the golden light of the setting sun shone through the greenery in the garden was a dream realized.”
